Foundations in Myo introduces the principles of orofacial myofunctional therapy through an eight-week online learning experience designed for eligible healthcare professionals.
This eight-week online program introduces healthcare professionals to the foundations of orofacial myology through structured learning, practical activities and opportunities for discussion.
Throughout the program, you will explore:
Orofacial function: Oral rest posture, tongue posture, breathing patterns and oral habits.
Evaluation principles: Recognizing orofacial myofunctional patterns and understanding the components of a comprehensive evaluation.
Myofunctional therapy: Foundational therapy techniques, treatment planning and individualized care.
Interprofessional collaboration: Understanding the importance of appropriate referrals and collaborative care across healthcare disciplines.
Whether you are a registered dental hygienist, speech-language pathologist, dentist, occupational therapist or physiotherapist, the program introduces foundational concepts that may complement your existing professional education and clinical interests.

Understanding how to structure and implement a myofunctional therapy program involves more than learning the theory. Experiencing the exercises firsthand provides valuable insight into how they are performed and how they may feel from a client's perspective.
Throughout our eight-week program, you will be provided with a structured OMT exercise plan and accompanying exercise videos. As part of your course participation, you will be expected to work through the full exercise plan, practising the foundational exercises and experiencing the progression of a therapy program firsthand.
This practical experience is designed to help you become familiar with the exercises, recognize common challenges and develop a deeper understanding of how myofunctional therapy techniques may be incorporated into individualized treatment programs.
Throughout our eight-week Foundations in Myo program, we meet online once a week on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time for live classes and Q&A discussions.
These interactive sessions provide opportunities to connect with your instructors and fellow participants, ask questions, clarify concepts from the weekly lessons and engage in discussions that deepen your understanding of the material.
Can't attend a live session? No problem! All live discussions are recorded, and you will receive a link to the recording so you can revisit the material at a time that works for you.
Enrolment in Foundations in Myo is intentionally limited to maintain smaller class sizes and create an interactive, supportive learning environment.
Both instructors attend every weekly live class and Q&A discussion, giving you the opportunity to learn from and interact with both of us throughout the eight-week program. Our two-instructor approach allows for shared perspectives, engaging discussions and opportunities to have your questions addressed.
We also take the time to get to know our participants, understand their professional backgrounds and appreciate their individual learning goals. Our aim is to provide a welcoming learning environment where you feel supported as you build your foundational knowledge of orofacial myology.

The first component of Foundations in Myo introduces the fundamentals of identifying orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs) and understanding their potential impact on orofacial function.
You will explore a range of orofacial patterns and concerns, including altered tongue resting posture, mouth breathing, restricted tongue mobility and oral habits. You may recognize some of these concepts already, but this course will help you examine them through the lens of orofacial myology.
We will explore how orofacial myofunctional patterns may relate to orofacial growth and development, as well as their potential associations with temporomandibular disorders (TMD), bruxism, sleep-disordered breathing and orthodontic concerns.
You will learn to recognize potential red flags and risk factors in a medical history and develop the knowledge and skills to conduct a comprehensive orofacial myofunctional evaluation.
Building on your understanding of identifying orofacial myofunctional disorders, this component focuses on designing and implementing individualized myofunctional therapy programs.
We provide practical therapy templates to help you structure your treatment plans and begin applying what you've learned as you transition from the Foundations in Myo program into your professional practice. You'll also learn how to tailor treatment plans to address each client's individual needs, abilities and therapy goals.
You'll explore oral habit elimination programs, practical strategies for working with different age groups, and a range of additional myofunctional therapy exercises for more complex clinical presentations. We also provide exercise resources addressing temporomandibular disorders (TMD), breathing patterns, sleep-disordered breathing and orthodontic considerations, helping you expand your understanding of exercise selection within an individualized approach to care.
In this final component, we explore the practical considerations involved in integrating orofacial myofunctional therapy into your professional practice.

Foundations in Myo is an IAOM Affiliated Course for Active Membership and Certification Eligibility.
Enrolment in Foundations in Myo is open to eligible, regulated healthcare professionals, including Registered Dental Hygienists, Dental Therapists, Oral Health Therapists, Dentists, Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), Medical Doctors (MDs), Orthodontists, Occupational Therapists (OTs), and Physiotherapists (PTs).
Whether you're new to orofacial myofunctional therapy or have completed introductory training and are looking for additional guidance with implementing therapy programs, Foundations in Myo provides a structured learning experience to help you build your knowledge and develop your clinical skills.
Eligibility requirements: You must hold a current licence or registration in one of the eligible professions listed above to enrol.
Registrations from individuals who do not meet the eligibility requirements may be cancelled and refunded, less a 10% administration fee, unless prior written approval has been granted by MyoCoaches.
Upon successful completion of Foundations in Myo, you may be eligible to apply for active membership with the International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM) and enrol in its certification process, subject to the IAOM's current eligibility requirements.
IAOM certification is a separate process from completing our course and may be optional, depending on your professional goals and applicable practice requirements. We discuss the membership and certification pathways in more detail during the course.
Foundations in Myo is designed to fit around your existing professional and personal commitments. The program combines weekly on-demand lessons with live, virtual group Q&A sessions, giving you the flexibility to learn at your own pace while connecting with instructors and fellow participants.
Plan for approximately 3.5–4 hours per week to complete the learning materials, participate in live sessions, and engage with the course content.
As a fully online program, you can complete the on-demand components from wherever is convenient for you, making it easier to balance your training with your work schedule.
No previous myofunctional therapy training is required to enrol in Foundations in Myo. The course is designed to introduce the foundations of orofacial myology, whether you're new to the field or looking to build on previous introductory learning.
You must, however, hold a current licence or registration in an eligible healthcare profession to enrol. Eligible professions include Registered Dental Hygienists (RDHs), Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), Dentists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Orthodontists, and Medical Doctors (MDs), subject to MyoCoaches' enrolment requirements.
Live group Q&A sessions take place via Zoom every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time throughout the eight-week course. Each session lasts up to one hour and provides an opportunity to review the week's lessons, ask questions, receive guidance from your instructors, and connect with fellow participants.
These interactive sessions are designed to help reinforce your learning and give you a chance to discuss course concepts as you progress through the program.
We understand that busy schedules can sometimes make it difficult to attend live. All group Q&A sessions are recorded, and a replay link is shared with participants so you can catch up when it's convenient for you.
You can also submit your questions in advance. Our instructors will address your questions even if you're unable to attend the live session, helping you stay engaged with the course and continue progressing through the material.
There are several ways to incorporate myofunctional therapy into your professional practice. Depending on your goals and practice setting, options may include adding myofunctional therapy services to your existing practice, contracting with other clinics, renting clinical space, or offering virtual sessions where appropriate.
In Foundations in Myo, we explore different practice models and practical considerations to help you understand your options and determine how myofunctional therapy might fit into your professional goals and existing practice.
Once your payment has been processed, you'll receive an email confirming your enrolment in Foundations in Myo.
We'll also send you a welcome document outlining important program information and next steps. You'll be asked to confirm your mailing address so we can ship your Student Package & Myo Kit.
You'll then be ready to access your course materials and prepare for your Foundations in Myo learning experience!
No additional purchases are required to complete Foundations in Myo. Your registration includes all online learning materials, along with a Student Package & Myo Kit containing supplies to support your learning and completion of the course exercises.
You'll also receive one of our favourite books on airway health! Your Student Package & Myo Kit will be mailed to you following enrolment.

Beginning on your cohort's start date, new lessons and supporting materials will be released every Tuesday throughout the eight-week Foundations in Myo program.
You'll have 24/7 access to the on-demand lessons, allowing you to work through the material at your own pace and around your existing schedule.
You'll also retain access to your course lessons and materials for 12 months from your cohort's start date, giving you plenty of time to revisit the content as you continue developing your knowledge and skills.
Upon successful completion of the course requirements, including the weekly quizzes and final assessment, you'll receive a Certificate of Completion recognizing 30 hours of training in orofacial myology.
You'll retain access to the online learning portal and course materials for 12 months from your cohort's start date, allowing you to revisit lessons and resources as you continue learning.
You'll also be invited to join our private MyoCoaches graduates Facebook group, where you can connect with fellow graduates, exchange ideas, share professional experiences, and continue learning within a supportive professional community. A Facebook account is required to participate.
MyoCoaches does not offer or guarantee continuing education units (CEUs) or continuing education credits for this program. Upon successful completion, you'll receive a Certificate of Completion documenting your 30 hours of training.
You may submit this certificate to your professional association or licensing body to request recognition for continuing education credit, where applicable. It is your responsibility to verify the requirements of your applicable provincial, state, or national regulatory body or professional association. Acceptance of the course for continuing education credit is determined by the relevant organization.
All Foundations in Myo registrations are non-refundable. However, if you're unable to attend the cohort for which you've registered, you may request to transfer your registration to another upcoming Foundations in Myo cohort scheduled to begin within six months of your original course start date.
Transfer requests must be submitted in writing before the start date of your registered cohort. Requests received after the course has begun will not be eligible for a transfer.
